Setting up a custom email domain enhances your brand’s professional image. This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of configuring a custom email domain using a domain you’ve purchased through Cloudflare.
Introduction:
In this tutorial, Dawson from the Mastermind.com team demonstrates how to create a custom email domain using a domain purchased through Cloudflare. Follow these steps closely to successfully configure your custom email domain.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Log in to Your Cloudflare Account
Open your preferred web browser and go to the Cloudflare website.
Click on Log In at the top-right corner and enter your credentials.
Once logged in, you’ll be directed to your dashboard where you’ll see a list of your domains.
Step 2: Select Your Domain
Log In to your Business Hub account and make sure that you have a domain from cloudflare connected to the hub.
To check, go to Settings then select Domains.
Step 3: Access DNS Settings and Add Records
Go to Settings and select Email Services.
Click on the Dedicated Domain And IP button.
Click the +Add Domain button then type in your new email subdomain along with the domain that you have connected from cloudflare to the hub. Then click Add & Verify.
By hitting Continue, it will begin the process of automatically connecting it to Cloudflare. Once the process is complete, click on the Authorize Domain button.
Lastly, hit the Verify Domain button to begin the process of having all your connected records verified.
Step 4: Verify Your Domain Ownership
Once the DNS records are configured, return to your email hosting provider’s setup page.
Initiate the domain verification process, which usually checks for the correct DNS setup.
Allow up to 48 hours for DNS propagation.
Step 5: Verify SSL Certificate Issuance and Set Shared IP to Active
Next, ensure that your domain is secured with an SSL certificate:
In Cloudflare, go to the SSL/TLS settings for your domain.
Set the SSL/TLS mode to Full or Full (Strict).
Verify that the SSL certificate status shows as Active. If it is pending, it may take up to 24 hours to issue.
After confirming the SSL certificate:
Return to the DNS settings.
Ensure that your domain’s shared IP address is set to Proxied (indicated by an orange cloud icon), enabling secure routing through Cloudflare.
Important: This step ensures your email domain is both secure and active.
